How do I default the program to show detail list of images instead of thumbnails. I know I can change the view with CTRL F2, but I want it to default to the detail list view for all folders.

I have not found a configuration option in the settings now.
But you can customize the view with the settings at the bottom right of the file viewer. Just did a little test on it myself.

For example:
- Details View
- Automatic selection of list view: Off
- Remember the custom view for folders: Off
This setting would force "Details View" on every directory change
